Training on the Legion LPHS: What a Leg Press Hack Squat Combo Actually Does
The Legion LPHS is a leg press and hack squat combo, and that combo is the whole point. It does two things well and a few more with the right setup. Anyone selling you fifty exercises on it has never loaded the carriage.
The Two Movements It Is Built For
The leg press and the hack squat are the reason this machine exists. Both load the carriage directly, both track cleanly, and both let you push real weight without a spotter. On the hack squat side I have run over 600 pounds on the horns and pressed unilaterally, and the carriage did not shift or bind.
The Variants Worth Your Time
Single-leg work is where this machine earns its footprint. Pressing close to 300 pounds unilateral, the trolley moved like it was empty. Calf raises off the platform, wide and narrow stances, high and low foot placement, these all change the stimulus without changing the machine.
What It Is Not
It is not a rack, it is not a hamstring machine, and no amount of creative programming turns a two-movement carriage into a full lower-body gym. Train the movements it is built for, add the variants that load cleanly, and stop there.
